The unit provides specialist care for women who require admission to hospital for significant mental health difficulties in the first year following childbirth that impact on their ability to function in everyday life and to care for their child. Women and their babies will be admitted if the mother has significant mental health problems.

- The Psychiatrists, Psychologists and mental health nurses can work closely in liaison with obstetrician and families to provide a holistic care. We aim to reduce risk of self harm or suicides too and recover completely
- The Perinatal psychiatric unit offers care to pregnant women with mental health needs.
- The Perinatal Psychiatric unit will offer support and treatment to women with pre-existing psychiatric conditions to plan their pregnancy and childbirth and prevent any decline in their mental health conditions during this process.
